Based in the West Midlands, Music & Lyrics Ltd. is run by a full-time team of arts professionals, led by Executive Producer John Stalker.
“For me, the real thrill of theatre has always been in the creation of shows. It is a high-risk business, of course, but so far I’ve been lucky both in finding backers that I can persuade to invest, and in working with terrific creative teams.”
John created Music & Lyrics Ltd. in 2011, alongside forming his own theatre production company – John Stalker Productions. His move into executive producing came after a 29-year career leading major UK theatres, which include: The Duke’s Theatre, Lancaster, Liverpool Playhouse, Birmingham Rep and Edinburgh’s King’s and Festival Theatres. John indulges his passion for contemporary dance as a co-founder and co-chair of Dance Consortium Limited, a company dedicated to the presentation of internal contemporary dance in the UK.
“My passion is for the work we see on our stages. Music & Lyrics has given me a greater involvement in the creative decision making and allowed me to meet many talented, committed individuals within our industry. I am very proud of the high-quality work we produce, I look forward with excitement to the productions we will create in the future…the laughs, the tears and the standing ovations!”
Anne joined Music & Lyrics Ltd. from the Tron Theatre in Glasgow where she was Executive Director. She first met John during her time at the Kings and Festival Theatres, Edinburgh, where she was Head of Sales & Marketing. Between her time in Edinburgh and Glasgow Anne carried out a number of freelance contracts for No 1. venues including Wales Millennium Centre and Aberdeen Performing Arts. Anne is also a Director, alongside Kenny Miller and Mary McCluskey, of Theatre Jezebel, a theatre company which they formed in 2009.
“I was involved with Music & Lyrics productions from the beginning with the King and I, having to learn how to license 32 children – not an easy task! I enjoyed working with Music & Lyrics, feeling more involved with the producing side of theatre, rather than just presenting. When the opportunity arose to join the team in 2016, there was no hesitation!”
Kate joined Music & Lyrics Ltd. after working at Birmingham Hippodrome for 14 years, where she was the Assistant to the CEO, with responsibility for liaising with UK and international producers.
Robert has just retired from active theatre management, having most recently spent nine years leading the revival of Nottingham Theatre Royal & Royal Concert Hall, and has returned to his arts management consultancy Arts Portfolio. He’s been a supporter of Music and Lyrics Ltd. since the start, and has watched it become a real force in the production and presentation of quality musical theatre across the UK, working with and for theatre managers and not to line the pockets of distant shareholders.
